Living Room Window: Numero Dos

We got the second living room window installed this evening.

Before:

Justin is removing the existing moulding.

The new window is waiting to be installed after the old window was completely removed.

Justin is caulking around the newly installed window.

After:

It's so much quieter in the living with the new windows. I'm sure they'll also make a big difference with the temperature in there.

Living Room Window: Numero Uno

Earlier today, Justin and I picked up our windows from Home Depot. This evening, we decided to get one installed in the living room. There is still one more window in the living room that needs to be replaced. We will probably try to tackle that Saturday.

The before photo:

Justin begins by cutting around the moulding with a utility knife.

He then removes the moulding with a moulding pry bar. These were super handy when we installed the bamboo floors in Tifton.

After the moulding is removed, the metal track is removed from the wood frame of the house.

Ta da! The window is gone!

Another view:

After a test fit, we prepped the new window with insulation and caulk and then caulked around the wood frame so the window will be air-tight. Then we slid the window in place. This part is actually the easiest part of installation. After the window is in place, screws are inserted to make the window secure and tight. Then, Justin caulks around the window on the inside and outside to create an even more secure air-tight and water-tight seal. This keeps out the little critters, too.

Just over an hour later, the window is installed.

We still need to reinstall the trim moulding that was removed in the first step, but we need to make sure the caulk is completely dry before we tackle that.

We hope to tackle another window or two or three tomorrow.

Guess what we're working on this weekend?

About a month ago, Justin and I ordered more replacement windows for the house. We've slowly replaced six of the twenty-four existing windows over the past year (Justin's room and living room, master bedroom). Two of the existing windows are "new" so we won't need to replace them. We were notified about two weeks after placing the order that the windows were ready for pick up. We had some things going on and really had no place to store the windows so Home Depot was nice enough to store them for us for a couple of weeks.

The previous windows got to ride in the Honda and we had to make multiple trips for the windows in Justin's room. Due to us ordering eight windows this time, we decided to rent a truck from Home Depot. It was actually simple, but we did have to wander around the store for a little while until a truck became available. Once we signed the paperwork, we had some help loading the truck and we were on our way. We did borrow a broom so we could sweep out the sand from the bed of the truck. I think one of the previous renters took the truck to the beach.

The windows are chilling out in the living room (one is in the hallway) until they get installed. I should have pictures of the installations so check back in a few days. I seriously doubt we'll have all eight windows installed this weekend, but we do plan to tackle a few.

This time, we ordered picture windows to replace the picture windows in the kitchen/den and the sunroom. We've only installed windows with movable sashes in the past, so we're a little interested to see how the picture windows install. The employees we've talked with at Home Depot have faith in us and have assured us the picture window installation is as simple as the others. We'll see.
The picture windows are the big ones on the right side of the photo below. They are heavy and big.

Cinnamon Roll with Brown Sugar Icing

I wish I had a recipe to post, but the photo of this little beauty will have to do. Look at all the yummy icing. It tastes as good as it looks.

A view from the inside.

This is what I wanted to do after partaking of this yummy goodness:

I had lunch with my aunt today and she sent me home with this cinnamon roll. I'm surprised I made it home with the cinnamon roll in one piece. I thought about it for most of the drive home and if I should wait and share it with Justin. I did leave him some, but I just couldn't wait. I had to have a piece as soon as I got home. I didn't even share it with Pete and Annabelle. Oh, my goodness! It was delicious! I put it in the microwave for a few seconds and it was better than I imagined. My aunt said she got it from an Amish bakery/kitchen/town. It's probably a good thing that I don't know where this bakery is because I would be broke and fat.

Justin Says Hi

Last night, Justin was going through some clothes in his closet. He found some suit pants that are a little too big.
I think the flip flops add a lot.

There isn't much more to say about this.

Pete and Annabelle Do Atlanta

My weekly trips to Atlanta ended on Friday. I am now officially living in Atlanta. Pete and Annabelle are also permanent Atlantans.

Pete has thoroughly explored the courtyard and marked every square inch. There is no mistaking that she rules this yard.

Annabelle enjoys basking in the sun on the concrete. She has thoroughly explored the backyard and courtyard, but Pete has done the "marking". Annabelle goes outside and refuses to come back inside. We usually have to go out and retrieve her because Pete will worry herself senseless. She has issues with being separated from Anne. I took this photo while trying to coax Annabelle inside. She just stared at me.

When Pete and Annabelle visited in December, Annabelle figured out she could squeeze through the gaps in the courtyard gate and get to the backyard. Since the gate at the side of the house is a little high from the ground, we were concerned about the dogs crawling under the fence and escaping. We decided we wanted to confine them to the courtyard. I also reasoned in my mind they would be a little safer from snakes in the courtyard. Don't laugh. We added some fencing material to the gate to prevent the dogs from going to the backyard without us.

It's not really all that noticeable and was pretty easy and inexpensive to do. I fed the mosquitos and held the flashlight while Justin did the work. Annabelle has inspected every part of the gate but hasn't figured out a way to get out, yet. I know she will succeed. She usually does.
