I am a freak of nature - I love going to the dentist! I've never had anything other than cleanings and a couple of small cavities filled, so that's probably why I'm not scared of the dentist. I am afraid of needles so the cavities were filled without a local anesthetic. Yes, I know I'm a freak. It must run in the family because my sister is like me when it comes to shots in her gums.
I had my six month cleaning this morning. I try to take really good care of my teeth and it makes me happy when they are professionally cleaned. If I could afford it, I would have my teeth cleaned weekly. The dentist I currently use is Dr. Bynum (North Valdosta Dental Care) in Valdosta. He offers sedation dentistry which is great if you're afraid of the dentist. You take a pill before your office visit and you are awake, but totally relaxed and sedated. I've never needed this sedation, but I would definitely ask for it if I needed any procedure that required an injection.
Dr. Bynum's office is always clean and I am very relaxed when I enter. It's home-like, but still clinical, if that makes sense. The staff is so friendly and really seem to care about your dental needs. I always have the same hygienist, which is nice, too. Before the cleaning begins, they measure the pockets in your gums around each tooth and another employee records the measurements. I never have any bleeding, which seems to be a big deal to them. I'm always congratulated multiple times and it makes me feel really good. After the cleaning, the hygienist always mentions to Dr. Bynum during his exam that I do a really good job with my home care.
Going to the dentist is a big self-confidence booster for me. It makes me happy. It's the little things. =)
